Flathead Lake
Flathead Lake
Flathead Lake is approximately 28 miles long and at some points, 15 miles wide with maximum depth of 370 feet and the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River.
It is one of the cleanest lakes of its size anywhere in the world with the clarity in the summer, being able to see 20 feet of perfect and clear water columns.
The waters are full of inhabited native bull trout, as well as cutthroat trout. It is fisherman’s dream with trophy size lake trout, yellow perch and lake whitefish.
With a lake of its size it’s rumored to also house the Loch Ness Monster. People have reported seeing sightings of this monster now for over 100 years and although in the 50’s one was thought to have been caught, it was found to have been a 181-pound white sturgeon. The monster is now displayed in Polson at the Flathead Historical Museum. However the other one is still alive and living in the waters of Flathead Lake, or so they say.
